Evan Bodine, PhD
Psychologist, Founder
I’ve been providing therapy since 2013. I’m a Licensed Psychologist in private practice. In my work, I seek to understand how you’re feeling, how your emotions impact your thoughts, actions, and body, and how your relationships are then affected. I also believe that the various identities we hold, such as gender, race, and sexuality, impact how we move through the world, and I want to know how these parts of yourself impact how you perceive yourself and others. This approach allows us to consider your experiences internally and externally, and find meaning that you can use to guide your choices, values, and relationships.
I work with variety of presenting concerns, and I specialize in working with anxiety, life transitions, interpersonal relationships, trauma, family issues, and cultural identity development. I use my expertise in mental health and yoga to understand your experience informed by your mind, body, and heart. It’s my goal to help you regain control, feel grounded, and become empowered in your life. I seek to discover how your relationships, feelings, labels, and constraints have impacted your life so that transformation can be authentic to you.
I use an Emotion-Focused and Feminist approach to therapy. I seek to understand how you’re feeling, how your emotions impact your thoughts, actions, and body, and how your relationships are then affected. I work to understand how these elements connect to and are impact by systemic and cultural components of your unique lived experience. This approach allows us to dive into your experiences and find meaning that you can use to inform your choices, values, and relationships.
Yoga Teacher
In 2008, I found yoga and instantly fell in love with the practice. I tried several styles of yoga and felt most connected to hatha yoga, which can be translated to “sun” (ha) and “moon” (tha). As its name illustrates, I found balance in the practice that grounded me physically and emotionally and gave me a space to be creative and deepen my awareness of myself. I graduated from the Nirvana School of Classical Yoga in 2009 with my 200-hour certification in Atlanta, GA. I’ve also completed the 300-hour certificate program facilitating Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga, an empirically-based treatment for trauma.
When I facilitate trauma-sensitive yoga with clients, I use my own experience in postures to inform my teaching and understanding of the mind-body connection. I aim to create a space that’s inviting and safe for exploration and awareness. I encourage connection to the inner-felt sense of a shape, rather than what a “perfect” yoga form looks like to others.
I teach from a place of curiosity. My practice has taken many forms since its beginning, but I’ve consistently experienced my mat as a place to be curious about myself, play, process, let go, and recharge. I find that whenever I step on to my yoga mat, I learn something new about myself or how I respond to a form or a situation in my life, and this awareness has been transformative. I feel honored to share yoga with other and learn how the practice impacts them.
