Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) was developed at the Trauma Center in Brookline, Massachusetts. TCTSY is an empirically validated, clinical intervention for complex trauma or chronic post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The TCTSY program earned inclusion in the National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP) database published by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in the United States. TCTSY was founded on principles of yoga, trauma theory, attachment theory, and neuroscience. Dr. Bodine has completed The Center for Trauma and Embodiment’s 300-hour Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) Certification and is a certified TCTSY-Facilitator (TCTSY-F).

In TCTSY , participants engage in a series of physical forms and movements. Traditional hatha yoga forms might be practiced, but the physical forms and language cues are modified to foster an experience of empowerment for survivors to cultivate a more positive relationship to one’s body. Dr. Bodine does not use physical, hands-on adjustments nor does she use commanding language. Instead, she presents opportunities for participants to be in charge of themselves based on their own felt sense of their bodies.

Although in TCTSY sessions Dr. Bodine offers physical forms and movements to practice, the emphasis is not on the what the form looks like or if you’re doing it “right.” Instead, the focus is on your internal experience of the shape or movement. This focus is a key component of TCTSY as a complementary treatment for complex trauma, as the power comes from the survivor, rather than the facilitator or someone else. Also, by focusing on internal sensations to inform choice-making, TCTSY sessions are an opportunity for survivors to restore the mind-body connection and cultivate a sense of agency that is compromised as a result of trauma. Things to Know

At this time, Dr. Bodine is able to offer TCTSY to her therapy clients as an integrative approach as they are interested in this modality. Please inquire during a therapy consultation to discuss the fit of TCTSY for your therapy journey.

This page will be updated when Dr. Bodine is able to offer TCTSY sessions to those seeking solely TCTSY rather than a combined approach of talk therapy and TCTSY.
